Pollution in the Sea

This week the children have been learning how polluted oceans affect the animal life that live there.

They know a lot about this problem and have opinions about how people can help save the animals that live in the sea. Just ask them.

The children might like to tell you about turtles in New Zealand waters and the difficulties they have surviving amongst the floating plastics.

The children were fascinated about what they saw in this youtube clip from Young Ocean Explorers
www.youtube.com/watch?v=nr-wZQF0crE

Here are some stories the children wrote about pollution in the oceans.

Dolphins Eat Rubbish Plastic
It’s not good for them. They will die and they can’t drink water. They will die. People shouldn’t drop rubbish or it will go in the water.   Brooke

The turtle eats the plastic and he dies.  Grayson

The people throw plastic in the water and turtles eat it.   Amelia

The turtle swims and drinks the fuel.   Jacob

The pollution makes the animals sick and they drink the oil.  Lily

In the ocean the turtles eat the plastic and they get sick. Why do they leave their plastic?  Alex

The turtles are eating the rubbish and they get sick. They put the rubbish in the water.   Emily M.

When the rubbish goes in the ocean and they eat it and they die in the ocean. They float in the ocean and they float to dry land.   Louis

The Pollution
If the fish eat plastic they can die because they think plastic is jellyfish. The Kelly Tarlton people can fix them and throw them back into the water. People should not put rubbish in the water because it will make the animals sick.    Tayla

Floating Oil
The oil floated in. The rubbish flew and flew and flew out of the bin and into the ocean. People keep putting rubbish in the ocean. Pick it up! The animals get sick. They think it is food.   Rafferty

Oil in the Ocean
When the animals in the ocean eat the pollution stuff they die. But, the Kelly Tarlton’s people come and help them. They think it’s their food. People shouldn’t drop rubbish.   Kyan

Pollution can kill sea animals and they get sick because rubbish come out of the drain. People shouldn’t do that.   Chad

I saw the turtle eat rubbish.   Ciaan

The turtle swims and eats rubbish.   Wai

Pollution in the Ocean
The turtles are eating plastic and juice bottles. When the turtles eat plastic and juice bottles sometimes people swim out to sea and help the turtles. They think the plastic and juice bottles are jellyfish.  Chelsea

In the Ocean
In the ocean animals eat plastic because they think it’s jellyfish and they die and they sink down to the bottom of the sea.   Lexi

The people put rubbish in the sea and turtles eats it.   Hayden

Animals in the sea have problems because people put things in the sea and if someone doesn’t find the sick animals then they will die. They will die and that’s why people shouldn’t put rubbish in the sea.   Emily J.

Open Writing Morning

Thanks to all the parents who came to our Open Writing Morning.
The children really enjoyed sharing their writing with you and proudly showed how they have improved since the day they walked in the door as a new 5-year old.
Here are a few snapshots from today.

Independent Writers

Today these children stood up high on their chairs to proudly show that they had achieved one or more of their writing goals.

Their goals are recognised when they achieve them independently.

And tomorrow you'll be able to see for yourselves.

Kelly Tarlton's Visit

The children had a fabulous day learning about the unique sea life at Kelly Tarlton's. They were fascinated by the sea creatures. I'm not captioning these photos because the children will be able to tell you about their day, their favourite experience and what they learnt.
