A Visit from Mitcham Primary SchoolMit

This week children from Mitcham Primary School in Melbourne are visiting our school. They are being billeted by Year 5 from Cockle Bay.

Today we had 5 Mitcham Primary School children visit our class. At fitness time we showed them the clever tricks we can do on the bars.

We talked together in small groups about things the same and different between our two schools.

Then they helped us with our writing and handwriting.

We really enjoyed the time we spent together.

The 1/2N class is a Grade 1 and 2 class at Mitcham Primary. With their teacher, Miss Nicholls they have been following our blog. They wrote us a letter which was delivered by Miss Ellis one of the visiting teachers, who was the Postlady. Today we wrote a class letter back to them.

Sketching Faces

We have been sketching our faces. We looked in the mirror to check the shape of all the parts of our face and where exactly does our nose, eyes, mouth and ears go?

Check the mirror, then sketch.

This is tricky, but we're trying to get all the bits in the right places.

"Look everyone, aren't we clever. "
Just stunning.

Making Butter

The Owls Reading group read a book about how to make butter. They followed the instructions in the book and made their own butter.

Making Butter

Pour in the cream.
Add a little bit of salt.

Kyan shook and shook.

Tayla shook and shook.
Rafferty shook and shook.

Check. Is it butter yet? No. Keep shaking.

Shake and shake and shake. Check again. Yes.
Now we have butter and buttermilk.
Spread some butter on the crackers.
Taste test. Yum!

Share it with our friends.

Bean Bag Boogie

Bean Bags can help with balance, hand-eye co-ordination, body awareness, spatial awareness and they're lots of fun.

Our Favourite Shoes

The favourite shoes came out of their bags. With excitement they went on the feet. Amidst the laughter and bouncing around the room there was lots of chatter about what makes the favourite shoes special.

They were described as sparkly, stretchy, comfy, pretty, beautiful, fast, speedy, colourful, flowery

Here are a few pieces of writing that describe their shoes.

I like my pink sparkly shoes because they are pink stretchy shoes. They feel comfy.
Emily J.

My favourite shoes are special because they are dancing shoes. They feel comfortable. I like them because they are beautiful.
Lexi

My favourite shoes have wings and a zip. They have a shoelace tie and they are blue and black.
Louis

My favourite shoes are green with big white ticks.
Hayden

My shoes are black. They make me run fast in the bark.
Jacob

My favourite shoes are cool. They flash when I stomp my feet.

The Week That Was

It's been a Joy Cowley kind of fortnight of writing, reading and artwork. We've read and written funny stories, sketched and drawn Greedy Cat and if you want to see what Smarty Pants we are, you'll have to come and visit us. Here is some of our work we would like to share with you.

Collaging Smarty Pants' pants and shoes.
Greedy Cat writing and sketching.
Greedy Cat crayon and dye pictures.
Do-Whacky-Do painting by Jacob.
Do-Whacky-Do painting by Ciaan.
A Hungry Giant story by Chelsea.
It's really important to retell a story in sequence. Sophie, Emily and Chad painted a story with a beginning, middle and end.
If you haven't seen the calendars come and check them out.
You need to place your orders this week.
